Los Angeles is famous for many things, including pitbull dog bites to small children. Many groups and people agree that Pit Bulls, which include dog breeds like the American Pit Bull Terrier and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, are among the most dangerous dog breeds out there, followed closely by Rottweilers.

Is there truth to this, and what happens if you have a Pit Bull or were bitten or attacked by a Pit Bull?

Depending on genetics and training, any dog can be dangerous, but other dogs that may be seen as ferocious are not likely as large nor as powerful as a bit bull. A chihuahua, for instance, might bite you enough to require stitches, but it would not kill someone. A Pit Bull can and does, and the breed is responsible for dozens of fatal dog attacks yearly.

Though not all Pit Bull attacks are fatal, Pit Bull bites can cause severe injuries.

Many professionals agree that Pit Bulls are dangerous breeds of dogs. Let's take a look at why via examples of fatal dog attacks and statistics on dog bites.

Statistics show that Pit Bills are the Most Dangerous Breeds of Dogs

Though most Pit Bull owners say that their dogs are big babies and would never hurt a fly, the truth is that the breed is responsible for most dog bite fatalities compared to other breeds. This includes Pit Bull type dogs, including mixed breeds, which may have similar traits.

Other dog breeds also are considered to be possibly dangerous dogs, including:

  • Rottweilers
  • German Shepherds
  • American Staffordshire Terrier
  • Cane Corso
  • Doberman Pinschers
  • Tosa Inu
  • Dogo Argentino.

These are large dogs, but that doesn’t mean all large dogs are dangerous. A Labrador Retriever, for example, is a large dog. Still, most of them do not have aggressive tendencies like other animals, which are often chosen specifically for these traits as they make better guard dogs than family pets.

What are the Risks of Dog Breeds Like the Pit Bull?

It is difficult to find a study or statistics where any other breed is topping the list of the most dangerous dogs other than the Pit Bull. It is responsible for more dog bite injuries and fatal and disfiguring attacks than any other dog.

The vast majority of pittie dog owners may disagree with this, but there is a reason why this breed, and others, are banned from cities, apartments, public areas, and other places.

This is not to say that every Pit Bull has aggressive behavior or a history of biting incidents, but it’s essential to look at the Pit Bull problem as a whole and not as an individual dog.
