You might know there are Xbox games for autism, but did you know there are games created by autistic adults? GameStop not only knew this but has created a Limited Edition Xbox One controller to support Autism Awareness. They are donating a portion of the proceeds from each of these awesome controllers sold to the nonPareil Institute!
As you may already know, supporting autistic adults in gaining employment is a huge cause dear to my heart. So, when GameStop reached out to let me know about their efforts to support Autism Awareness, I was ecstatic!
About the limited-edition Xbox One controller to support autism awareness:
First (for all the gamers and parents thereof), this is an awesome controller! It is a PowerA wired controller for Xbox One and Windows 10. Now as a parent of three autistic children, I have seen my fair share of controller. This one is the best looking one I have ever seen! To start, the directional pad (d-pad) is metallic blue. From there, the design has so much meaning! Here’s the description directly from GameStop:
This GameStop exclusive controller for Xbox One was designed by PowerA Design Manager Brandon Smith whose young son, Mason, has autism. Brandon’s personal experience raising a son with autism and interacting with friends and families within the autism community influenced the design of the controller. Below is a little additional background behind the design:
- On the
controller the symbolism of the puzzle pieces embodies the uniqueness of each diagnosis. - The hand made of puzzle pieces represents people on the autism spectrum.
- Each different color hands represent the various people involved in the lives of individuals with autism: friends, family, doctors, teachers, etc.
- The message of the controller is that we can all come together to help and support our friends and family living with autism. People are all different, and while people with autism might stand out as different, we are all still people.
GameStop Gives to nonPareil Institute for Autistic Adults
Secondly, and more importantly, is where the donations from the sale of the limited-edition Xbox One controller are going to. The nonPareil Institute a post-secondary education institute focused on delivering digital technology training to adults with autism. This amazing organizations mission is Building Better Futures for Adults with Autism.
For the sale of each of these xbox controllers, $2 will be donated to this amazing organization. If you are wanting to make a larger donation (or donate without purchasing), GameStop has you covered. You can go directly to the GameStop Autism Awareness page to make a one time donation.
Plus, every purchase of this Limited-Edition Xbox One Controller to Support of Autism Awareness comes with a free key to download “To Catch a Monkey.” This amazingly cool game was designed by the autistic students at the nonPareil Institute!
