By now, I am sure you have seen or heard about this new Christmas tradition called Elf on the Shelf. You also may have wondered, just what is elf on the shelf? Well you are in luck, because today we are going to fill you in on this Christmas and give you some tips to make elf on the shelf easier.

First things First, What is Elf on the Shelf?

It all starts out with a book and a doll. “The Elf on the Shelf®: A Christmas Tradition includes a special Scout Elf sent from the North Pole to help Santa Claus manage his naughty and nice lists. When a family adopts a Scout Elf and gives it a name, the Scout Elf receives its Christmas magic and can fly to the North Pole each night to tell Santa Claus about all of the day’s adventures.

Each morning, the Scout Elf returns to its family and perches in a different place to watch the fun. Children love to wake up and race around the house looking for their Scout Elf each morning.”

All fun and games!

Every elf is just like out children, and come with their own personalities. Some are super sweet and very well behaved. Sometime, Elf on the Shelf’s have had too many sweets and often get into mischief! Luckily, our friend Freddy the Elf has been a very well behaved elf and he is quiet hilarious! No matter what your elf’s personality is, it is always fun and games while they visit!

#Momlife

I love making my children smile.  My two youngest have autism, and both believe that Freddy is real (because he is!).  Even though Freddy changes up our morning routine some, he becomes a part of our daily life.  Each morning, the kids go scouring through the house looking for what our elf has been up to! So what happens when #momlife kicks in and I forget to move the elf!

Tips to make Elf on the Shelf Easier!

I love searching through pinterest for ideas, but I often do not have time to come up with ideas for Freddy. Even when I am completely fueled by coffee, I am no where near as creative as my children or any of those pinterest wizards! Thankfully, the marketing geniuses at Elf on the Shelf came up with the SCOUT ELVES AT PLAY® set!

“This kit includes tips, tricks and elf-sized tools to help your Scout Elf create quick and easy scenes in your home. Let the Scout Elf Training Team be your guide through this 60-page elf idea book designed to show your elf how the 15 elf tools included can create 100 magical moments!”

This kit makes my life so much easier! With 100 different ideas (and images to show me how), our friend Freddy can be up to mischief in no time at all!

What is with the Elf on the Shelf Outfits?

If you have looked on pinterest anytime during the month of December, you will see a ton of these little scout elves! They look so cute, all decked up in crazy outfits. There are hoodies, raincoats, tutus, baking outfits and even super hero costumes. The secret to these is you can’t touch the elf! So if your little one’s help you get your scout elf an outfit, just have them lay them out by him to take back to his room at the North Pole. Then your scout elf will have outfits to wear when ever they want!

Elf on the Shelf A Birthday Traditions!

Elf on the shelf does not have to be just a winter holiday tradition! Thanks to this fun little kit called Elf on the Shelf A Birthday Tradition. We have four different kid birthdays, one that falls in December. We use this fun little tradition for Freddy to leave the kids a tiny gift on their birthday. It is just a fun way to keep the tradition going through out the year.

The secret to this one is you have to send Santa a letter asking for permission to send your elf back for your birthday. So make sure to bring out the birthday tradition book a few days early so you have time to send and receive a letter from Santa.

Where can I adopt an Elf on the Shelf?

This is the easy (well, according to what time of year) one. There are four different elves you can choose from, as well as two elf pets. Any time of year, you can head on over to amazon to order any elf or accessory.

During the Christmas season, you can adopt your elf on the shelf at any Target or Walmart. In store, your selection is based off what is on hand. You can go to either Target.com or Walmart.com to order a specific elf. Then, just choose site to store on either retailer to have it delivered it your local store for free! Easy Peasy!

If you are looking for Elf on the Shelf branded items (lip gloss, Pencils, Coloring books, Candies, Etc), Target is the place to go. I always find cute stuff on their website and love the finds in their $1-$5 section at the front of the store.
