Top 5 Activities Moms Can Do For Self-Care

They say parenting is the hardest job in the world, and with good reason. While a typical job may have you working the occasional 10-hour day, parenting takes 24 hours a day. There are no breaks, no bonuses, no vacations, and not a paycheck to be had.

For moms, who tend to tackle the bulk of the parenting duties, the workload can prove particularly trying. This making many mothers feel drained even on otherwise peaceful days with their kids. The good news? Parenting doesn’t have to be such a slog, especially if you take adequate time for yourself.

Luckily, that doesn’t have to mean expensive therapy sessions or dropping tons of cash to make yourself feel better. If you’re a mom who could benefit from a bit of a break, try these self-care activities on for size.

Get a manicure:

Something as simple as a manicure can make you feel like a million bucks when your days are otherwise spent assembling a peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and changing diapers. And while it may require a trip to the salon, most manicures aren’t costly. Even at a nicer salon, you’re unlikely to spend more than $20 on a standard manicure in most cities.

Even if you don’t have much wiggle room in your budget, this is one relaxing treatment you can do yourself. Just put on your favorite TV show and pour yourself a glass of wine. Paint those nails with a bottle you picked up for just a few bucks at your local drugstore. Perfect for a relaxing and rejuvenating evening that won’t break the bank.

Practice yoga:

Sometimes taking care of your body can take care of what ails you mentally, too. Yoga classes can help stretch your body and relax your mind. Plus, give you some peace and quiet from the various stressors at home.

Better yet, even though it’s typically a gentle, low-impact practice, yoga can burn upwards of 400 calories per hour. This means yoga can help tone you up in no time, as well.

Take a cooking class:

You may spend hours preparing food for your family. But when was the last time you actually cooked something for fun? Especially something you actually got to enjoy while it was still hot (and without sharing any bites with your kids)?

If you want to actually get some enjoyment out of your time in the kitchen, take a cooking class. Preferably, learning to make something you’d never prepare at home. Be it hand-rolled sushi, French cuisine, or traditional Indian food.

Go on a long walk:

A simple stroll might just be the easiest form of self-care there is. Whether you’re walking around your neighborhood, the track at your local high school, or exploring a new area on foot, this easy exercise will help you clear your head, burn some calories, and de-stress along the way.

Hit the gym:

If you need a quick way to decompress, there’s no better way to do it than to hit the gym. Go for a run on the treadmill, climb on the stair stepper, take a class, or just hit the heavy bag and you’ll feel more like yourself in no time.
