How to Create the Best Playroom for Your Child
It is not a secret that kids love to play. The best way to make sure your child has the opportunity to do so in a safe environment and with toys they love is by creating a room dedicated just for them. Playrooms are often the most popular rooms in a house, and for a good reason. They’re designed to be fun, entertaining, and interactive spaces where kids can have their imaginations run wild.
How to Create the Best Playroom for Your Child
However, creating a room that is perfect for children and their imagination can be difficult. It’s essential to create an environment where your child feels free to play while being safe and consider the parents’ needs by including storage spaces and furniture that will grow with them. Here are some great ideas on how you can create a space that works for your child!
Paint Walls with Bright Colors and Draw Cartoons on Them
Adding a splash of color to your child’s playroom is one sure way to make them feel like it’s their own space. Painting the walls with bright, colorful paint will excite and stimulate children during any time they spend there. For example, drawing a big circle on the floor (or doing anything else that signifies an activity) and drawing different animated characters on the wall. Suppose you are not good at drawing. Go for cartoon character stickers’ drawings.
Lay a Fun themed Rug on the floor
Make the floor the main play area by laying a fun themed soft wool rugs. Or even you can paint the floor perfect for any sports theme they might be interested in. When it comes to rugs, the bigger and brighter, they are the better. A rug will give children a place to sit off of the hardwood or tile flooring often found in playrooms. It also provides them with some texture on which their feet can grip while running around madly!
Add some Fun Fixtures and Artwork to the Walls
No matter what, make sure there is always something for a child to do when they walk into their playroom. The easiest way to do the task without breaking your budget is with fun fixtures such as swings or slides on one wall, an easel on another one, and maybe a chalkboard on the third wall. Hang some artwork, like paintings of their favorite cartoon characters or kids playing with animals in an imaginary forest, to give them something fun to look at when they need a break from all that play!
You Can’t Forget Lighting.
No matter how well-lit your home is outside, the playroom will be darker. So add some lamps to your playroom if you can, but make sure they’re not too bright or intense for the kids’ eyes! Also, hanging some fairy lights or string lights will make the place more interesting for them.
Make a Canopy in the Corner
The best way to transform any room into a play space is with a canopy over the bed. You can do this by adding some large curtains and hanging them from ceiling hooks, or you can buy an inexpensive tent that will work just as well! All these items are easily found everywhere, so finding one is not a problem.
Make it Safe and Cozy.
Safety is the top in designing a place for kids. Many parents are starting to buy foam mats that you can lay on the floor, and they’re super soft, or a rug with a thick pile will work as well! If your playroom is in an area where there’s a risk of falls, then this is important too.
Also, don’t use any harsh chemicals to clean the rug or any other fabric because these might be harmful if your child accidentally ingests them. Involve Your Child in Decorating and Set-Up
The best way for a kid to feel special is when they have an opportunity to participate in something that’s usually only done by adults. This will make it a more unique and fun place for them. You can ask your children to help you by picking out their favorite colors, deciding on the theme of your room, and if they want any special features like a reading nook.
Create a Chalkboard
Create a chalkboard in your playroom so kids can draw to their heart’s content. This is a great activity for them to get creative and have fun while also learning something new. It is also best for them to learn to draw murals and wall paintings. Moreover, it’s always good to have board games, cards, and other activities for kids in the playroom. This is not only great because they’ll be able to use their imagination while playing but it will also teach them new skills.
Games Galore
It’s always nice when it feels like you’re not just playing with toys, but games too. So ensure there are lots of puzzles, blocks, and other creative games for kids to play with.
Furniture
It’s not just about the toys and games, but you must have the right furniture in your room as well. It is good to have chairs, tables, ottomans, and other items, so kids will be comfortable playing or reading.
Educational Toys
Educational toys are a great way to help stimulate your child’s developing brain. They must learn how to count, spell, and read at an early age, so you should make sure there are plenty of these types of games in the playroom. It’s always nice when there are toys in a room that can keep your child learning (even after school). Also, ensure there are many books and coloring books to make sure your child is getting a good education.
Create a Pool Area in the Backyard
Besides a playroom, kids love to play outside. Creating an in-home pool is best for them during the summer months. You can create a pool in your backyard with an above-ground, inflatable, or even a hard plastic one to make sure that they are always able to enjoy themselves! If you are concerned about children’s safety in a pool and outdoors. Read “keeping kids safe this summer” for more information on safety measures for kids outdoors.
