What Items Should You Purchase for Baby’s Nursery?
Having a baby is a huge undertaking. Not only are you bringing a beautiful, new little life into this world, you are also making sure that they have all the love, care and essentials that they needed. With this in mind, you have to make sure that they have all the necessities in their nursery.
You may already have a theme, depending on the gender of the baby, for the nursery. You may have even thought of cute decorations to place throughout the nursery. Even if you have it all planned out, do you know what you stock the nursery with?
One of the biggest questions we hear from new parents is “What items should you purchase for a baby’s nursery?” To answer this, we’ve compiled a list of must have items for your new arrival. When the time comes to welcome baby home, you won’t want to be caught without some of these!
What Items Should You Purchase for Baby’s Nursery
Diapers and Wipes
Of course, diapers and wipes are going to be the first item on the list. Whether you choose to use cloth or disposable, they’re an essential item. You can go with a few different brands to see which ones you like. Make sure to stock up on Newborn and 1’s, since this is what is going to be used for the first month or so that the baby is home.
Baby Monitor
This is not necessarily a must, but it is definitely good to have while baby is sleeping in the crib. Make sure you have one that provides all the perks needed to watch and hear baby while you’re not around. Some of the latest models even have WIFI capability allowing you to watch your baby where you are.
Clothing
Need we say more? Clothing is good to have. Make sure to have onesies, pants, pajamas and other items. You want to have a good selection since babies are messy. They might go through a couple changes of clothes throughout the days, so you must have something to change them into. Having a couple newborn sized items are great, but make sure to have several 0-3 months as babies grow fast.
Swaddle Blankets
Babies love to feel like they’re in the womb still, which is why swaddle blanket are good to have. When you wrap baby up in them, they can feel more comfortable and content. They can feel almost like they’re in the womb. These blankets are not only comfortable, but breathable.
Crib
A crib is a big essential to have in your baby’s nursery. You need a place for baby to sleep. Whether or not you use a baby box or a bassinet for the first few months, being able to have a bed of their own is a good thing, for you and for them. Having a crib already set up and ready to go will save you much-needed time and sanity. It is no fun to try to assemble a crib while also taking care of a newborn. Also, make sure to pick out the right mattress that will last all the way through the toddler years!
Bathing Items
Make sure to stock up on wash cloths, towels, and gentle baby soap that you wash them with. You can skip the toys for now, since they’re not old enough just yet. A baby bath can help reduce the stress you feel when it comes to bathing them. Having a safe place to do so is a good way to go. Make sure to choose hypoallergenic items to wash baby with, and have a bottle of baby lotion for after to help keep their skin baby soft.
Feeding Items
While these are generally not in the nursery, pacifiers and bottles are good to have. You need to be able to feed baby and this is the best place to start. If you are bottle feeding, make sure to have bottles in stock and ready to go. If you are nursing, a nursing pillow is a life saver to have! They help support baby while you feed them, which gives your shoulders a rest too. These are great for bottle feeding as well.
Also, if you will be a nursing momma, make sure to have a tube of Lanolin cream on hand. This is an all-natural cream that helps protect and heal your nipples from cracking. It is completely safe for baby. One regular sized tube will last you several months.
Knowing the answer to what items should you put in your baby’s nursery will make this joyous transition much easier. Make sure to prepare your nursery with the items that baby must-have before anything else. There are a lot of baby items out there, but as a new mom or dad, you will be thankful to have the essentials ready to go so you can focus all your time to your beautiful bundle of joy!
