5 Types of Mom and Daughter Activities You Should Try
Mom and daughter activities are a great way to bond with your little girl. Healthy connections with your children are essential, and nurturing a healthy mother-daughter relationship is especially crucial to long-term happiness. According to some research, for every negative interaction, a child has with their parents, there need to be five positive ones.
Another report published by Psychology Today found that the relationship between a mother and her daughter would likely be the most important family relationship of either of their lives.
With this in mind, it’s time to start thinking about how you can make a difference in your daughter’s life. There are many bonding activities, ranging in budget and time commitment. However, the following five types of mom and daughter activities take the traditional bonding experience a step further, and give you some inspiration on what you can do:
1. Adrenaline Activities
There’s a reason why adrenaline activities are so prevalent in today’s culture. Depending on your daughter’s age, you may be limited to what adrenaline activities you can do. There are still plenty of ways you can infuse a little adrenaline into your actions. The truth is, a little adrenaline is healthy. It can boost your physical and mental alertness. This “burst” of energy allows you to breathe easier, see better, and even boost your immune system.
Do your research to find local adrenaline-inducing activities. For example, if you lived in California, you might search for a trampoline park in Sacramento or Go-Kart racing course in Los Angeles. Roller coasters, indoor rock climbing, and indoor skydiving are other fun and awesome adrenaline activities to consider.
2. Traveling
Traveling with your daughter can create an incredible bonding experience. Whether you’re going to a nearby town or crossing oceans to an international destination, there’s no doubt about it: traveling broadens your child’s horizons. First and foremost, it teaches them new cultures and can push them out of their comfort zone. You can analyze a map together, practice new words, and learn together.
Throughout their traveling journey, they’ll learn patience and confidence. Whether you’re looking for an alternate bus route in a foreign country or finding ways to occupy yourself during a long flight delay, there are always instances that come up that force you to act on the spot.
3. Cooking
Cooking with your daughter is a great way to help them learn some basic math concepts, encourage healthy eating habits, and instill confidence. After all, there’s nothing quite like working together on something and seeing (and tasting) the finished product firsthand. The ability to create something from scratch gives everyone a feeling of great enjoyment and accomplishment.
If your daughter(s) are on the younger side, consider starting with something simple, like a build-your-own pizza kit or a cake. With a pizza kit, they’ll have fun making and kneading the dough, and with a cake, they’ll have a blast with mixing the batter and adding the decorations.
4. Sporting
There’s no doubt about it; when your children play sports, they improve all facets of their lives. They learn discipline, leadership, teamwork, and much more. Unfortunately, studies have shown that boys benefit more from additional attention from their parents when it comes to staying active and playing sports.
By playing sports with your daughter, you help show her that women can be active, too. Some studies have shown that if you don’t get your daughter involved in sports by the age of 10, there is a slim chance she’ll be actively involved by the age of 25. This stat doesn’t mean you have to join a league or some organized sport. Merely going to the local baseball park together and playing catch goes a long way.
5. Mental Wellness
You might be thinking mental wellness activities are only for adults, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Mental wellness activities can be beneficial for children, too. Young children can benefit from preventative mental health practice, and older children can learn how to navigate the social and academic pressures of school.
Yoga is an excellent activity to do with your daughter, and it offers ample benefits. Not only can it increase your muscles and build strength and ability, but it puts you in a more relaxed state and can relieve anxiety. It also helps to develop your sense of self, as you learn to cultivate a healthy balance between your mind and body. For children, it’s also fun to test their flexibility, even if they don’t yet understand the full range of benefits.
Mom and Daughter Activities
No matter which mom and daughter activities you chose, the important thing is that you spend time together. Sharing in these moments with her now will create memories that will last a lifetime!
